Kristin Chenoweth was so spectacular opening last season that she’s been asked to do it again–twice.  The Broadway star will kick off the Mayo Performing Arts Center’s 2016-2017 season with two shows in September.

Another out-of-this-world personality is scheduled for January: Capt. Scott Kelly will talk about his year on the International Space Station.

Tickets for more than 100 shows go on sale on June 13, 2016.  Here is the season roster, announced Friday by MPAC.

Mayo Performing Arts Center Announces 2016-2017 Season
Tickets on sale Monday, June 13 at 9 am
From “Defying Gravity” to a year in space without gravity, Mayo Performing Arts Center’s 2016-2017 season is definitely going to new heights.

Over 100 performances will go onsale on Monday, June 13 at 9 am. Tickets can be purchased online at mayoarts.org, at the box office or over the phone at 973-539-8008.

Tony-winning actress Kristin Chenoweth performs an encore opening night performance on Friday, Sept. 23, and then comes back for a second performance on Sept. 24. Ms. Chenoweth wowed MPAC audiences last year.

One of the highlights of the season includes a lecture by New Jersey’s Captain Scott Kelly, who will discuss the year he spent at the International Space Station. Captain Kelly comes to MPAC on January 12, 2017. He will also conduct two lectures for schoolchildren on January 13.

Other artists and events coming to MPAC for the first time include Alan Cumming, Eric Stonestreet, Gavin DeGraw and Andy Grammer, Pet Shop Boys, Dr. Oz, Anderson Cooper, Drumline Live, Riverdance and the touring Broadway productions of Once, Annie, 42nd Street and Into the Woods.

Returning favorites include Tony Bennett, Michael Feinstein, New Jersey Ballet’s Nutcracker (with New Jersey Symphony Orchestra), Kenny Rogers and Art Garfunkel.

There is also a full slate of family-oriented events, including TV favorites Peppa Pig, The Octonauts and Sesame Street Live. This year, MPAC will offer two sensory-friendly events for children – The Rainbow Fish on February 8 and The Little Prince on May 7.

“As with every season at MPAC, we strive to bring the best of the performing arts to Morristown,” said Allison Larena, President and CEO, MPAC.

“Our season has something for everyone, whether you enjoy rock, pop, classical, lectures, jazz, theatre, comedy or family shows. We will also soon be announcing a free summer film series, sensory-friendly performances and other free and affordable events that provide arts experiences for everyone in our community.”

An additional 20-30 events will be added throughout the season. Most July – September events are already onsale.
