Grow It Green’s Shaun Ananko Receives Peck Community Service Award

A native to Morristown, Shaun Ananko began developing his love for farming as a small child when his mother taught him how to grow tomatoes in their home garden.

Now as Farmer Shaun for Grow It Green Morristown, he is proud to share his knowledge of food cultivation with the Morristown community and students of local schools.

For his commitment to public service and lasting contribution to the Morristown community, Shaun was recently honored at the 2016 Robin Ross Assembly at The Peck School on South Street.

The Peck School’s Annual Award For Community Service, established by the Board of Trustees, is given to a member of the Morristown community who merits distinction as a result of his or her personal dedication, community commitment, and service to others.

Shaun’s mission with Grow It Green Morristown is to create sustainable farms and gardens that provide equal access to fresh, local food and educate communities through programs focused on healthy eating and environmental stewardship.

With Shaun’s help, the organization has transformed abandoned or under-utilized areas of Morristown into beautiful and useful green spaces.

The Robin Ross Assembly recognizes the “graduation” of fourth grade students to the Upper School at The Peck School, and also honors a member of the greater Morristown Community (who is not affiliated with Peck) for community service.

The assembly is supported by the Robin Ross Fund at the Community Foundation of New Jersey; established in honor of Robin Ross, who was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edmund B. Ross of Basking Ridge and a former student at Peck.

The Robin Ross Fund is the principal sponsor of the InDeCoRe Program (Individual Development and Community Responsibility) at The Peck School, which combines core values and character education throughout the curriculum. It recognizes the priority placed on personal values, good character, and service to others in the overall school program.
