Morristown police will be pulling cars over around the Morristown Green next week…and they want you to gawk.
It’s the first “Cops & Rodders” classic car show, on Monday, June 13, 2016, from 6:30 pm to 9 pm.
As many as 65 classic cars and hot rods may be parked around the Green, said Detective Brian LaBarre, president of PBA Local 43, which is presenting the event in cooperation with the Morristown Partnership and the Morristown Parking Authority.
Admission is free.
“We’re hoping for a nice night, where people can take a walk through town,” LaBarre said. “Hopefully, it’s a nice little thing for the community, to drive business to some of the folks that take such good care of us. And it’s a way to get our message out, that we’re trying to be a partner with the community.”
The detective said Mondays tend to be a little slow downtown, so police thought a car show might help local businesses.
If all goes well, the show will be repeated on Sept. 13 and Oct. 12, LaBarre said.
Sponsors include the Iron Bar, Grasshopper Off the Green, the Office Tavern & Grill, Sona 13, Anthony’s Pizza, Urban Table/ Roots, Cold Stone Ice Cream/ Blimpie, the Game Vault and the Famished Frog.
Police have reached out to several antique car clubs. There are no registration fees, and the first 50 classic car owners get free t-shirts, LaBarre said. Prospective participants can get more details here.
