From Vivaldi to Carly Simon: Morris Choral Society to span the ages in Morristown, May 14

From the Morris Choral Society:

The 80-voice Morris Choral Society (MCS) concludes its 44th season on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at 8 p.m. with “Endless Song,” featuring Vivaldi’s Gloria plus works by Carly Simon, Mark Hayes, Mark Miller, James Erb and others.

The concert will be held at the United Methodist Church on the Green in Morristown.

Joining the chorus for the popular Gloria will be Clarum Sonum, a choir from Boonton under the baton of Rider Foster, and a full orchestra featuring Helen Raymaker of Madison on Harpsichord.

Soloists include soprano Rachel Fountain of New Brunswick, who also sings with Harmonium  and mezzo-soprano Anna Roberts who lives in Morristown and teaches locally at The Red Oaks School. Music Director Matthew Lee will conduct both the chorus and the orchestra.

The Morris Choral Society’s men’s chamber group, Express Male,  also will perform some selections.

Members of Express Male are John Collins of Raritan, Bud Leppard of Morristown, Chip Wood of Basking Ridge, Albert Perkins of Morris Plains, Wayne Walters of Parsippany who founded MCS 42 years ago and is still its resident conductor, and Rob Walters of Long Valley.

The Chorus will perform “Let the River Run” by Carly Simon, “Musick’s Empire” by Lloyd Pfautsch, “Shut de Do” by Mark Hayes, “Ubi Caritas” by Loa Gjeilo, “I Believe” by Mark Miller, “Homeward Bound” by Marta Keen” and “Shenandoah” by James Erb. Pianist Robert Tsai will be the accompanist for the group and the chorus.

The members of the orchestra come from across the area.

The violinists are Elise White of Middletown, New  York; Annelie Fahlstedt of Upper Montclair; Raphael Klayan of Long Branch; Elzbieta Winnicki of Union; Jenise Grice-Reedus of Irvington; Jocelyn Gertel of Ridgewood; and Norma Davis of Randolph.

The Violas include Karen Speiss-Kemp of Pompton Plains and Kathleen Daly of Avon by the Sea.

On cello will be Suji Kim of River Edge and Ilizabeth of Whippany, with Dennis Masuzzo of Upper Montclair on bass.

Tickets for the May 14 concert are $15 for students 18 and under, $20 for seniors and $25 for General Admission.
