Penny Lopez, the Morris Plains woman who has been chronicling her treatment for breast cancer, has postponed her surgery.

She checked into Morristown Medical Center on Friday morning for a double mastectomy, but was dealing with asthma and seasonal allergies. Her doctors advised against proceeding until her breathing is back to normal, she said.

Lopez endured lung-related complications from same-day surgery back in September, resulting in a six-day hospital stay.

“So for me, they take extra precautions, and for that I have zero complaints,” Lopez said. “In the end you are your best advocate and will be the once experiencing the consequences of your choices; I think I made the right choice today to postpone surgery until my breathing improved.”

She hopes to be ready in about two weeks.

“I’ll use this time to pray, rest, relax and emotionally prepare myself for the next surgery,” said Lopez, a business analyst and photo contributor to MorristownGreen.com

Lopez has been posting videos that document her journey, with the goal of helping other women survive breast cancer.  You can see these clips on her YouTube channel, Survivor Gal Penny,  and on her Facebook page, The Breast Of Me.   We’ll keep you posted, too.
