Goalie Evan Szary stopped all 28 Randolph shots, and goals by Jake DeFares and Teddy Dolan were enough to power Morristown High to its second state title on Monday, at the Prudential Center in Newark.

The Colonials scored at 9:08 of the first period, and kept the Rams off balance in a tightly played game.

Morristown’s fans were just about settling into their seats as DeFares was chipping Drew Shandlay’s pass behind Randolph netminder Luc Swedlund.

That’s because the NJ Transit train from Morristown to Newark was delayed for about 40 minutes in Maplewood while police removed rowdy passengers; some riders said the MHS victory celebration started on board before the first puck was dropped.

Others said the train carried many Randolph fans, too.

Monday’s victory was Morristown’s second title in three years.

Stay tuned for more.
