Morris Township is accepting registrations for several youth recreation programs, including girls field hockey and softball, T-ball, a mother-son night, a fashion program and chess classes.

Morris Township Girls’ Field Hockey Program

The Morris Township Department of Parks and Recreation presents girl’s field hockey instructional program for ages 10 – 14. This program will teach various techniques such as dribbling, passing, and shooting, games rules and fun.

Players will also learn communication between one another, teamwork and good sportsmanship throughout the program. Field Hockey will start Saturday, April 9 and run through May 14, 2016, at Green Field from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Registration fee is $30 per child.

Morris Township Opens Girls Softball And Children’s T-Ball Registration
Registration is open for the Morris Township Department of Parks and Recreation’s Girls
Softball and Children’s T-Ball Programs for the Spring 2015 season.

The Girls Softball Program is open to Morris Township and area girls in grades 2 through 5. Teams begin practices starting April 4, 2016, and play league games from May through June. Practices and games are held only on Monday afternoons, from 4:15 pm to 6 pm, at local Morris Township Fields.

The Registration period for Girls Softball is currently open at the Department of Parks and Recreation Office, 50 Woodland Avenue, Convent Station. The registration fee is $25 per child.

The Morris Township Children’s T-Ball League is an instructional skills program for boys and girls ages 5 to 7 who reside in Morris Township. Children must turn age five by Aug. 31, 2016.

Emphasis is placed on skills instruction, learning the rules of the game, fun, and sportsmanship. Teams are formed on a neighborhood basis with 19 teams participating during the 2015 season. Practices are held on weekday evenings from 4:15 to 6 pm once each week beginning late April. Games are held on Saturday mornings at 9 am starting on May 9.

Registration for T-Ball is now open at the Morris Township Department of Parks and Recreation, 50 Woodland Ave., Convent Station, weekdays from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Deadline is April 1, 2015.

Parents must register their own children and bring a copy of the player’s birth certificate. The registration fee is $25 per player. Neighborhood teams are filled on a first-come, first-served basis until filled.

Morris Township Hosts Mother – Son Fun Night

Reserve the date for Morris Township’s Mother and Son Fun Night for boys ages 5 – 10 years old and their moms. This is a great opportunity for moms and sons to bond and have a fun filled evening of active games and entertainment.

This event takes place on Friday, Feb. 26th at Mt. Kemble Fire House from 7 pm to 9 pm. Snow date will be on March 4 if necessary. Participate with mom in the Mad Science show “Up, Up and Away” – completing a hands-on science project. Reservations must be received by Feb. 22, 2016. Cost for this event is $10 per child.

Registration Open for Morris Township’s Fashion Club Program
The Township of Morris Department of Parks and Recreation is offering its annual Fashion Club program. The class is designed for children ages 8- 12 years of age. The program will consist of sketching and designing clothes and making clothing displays. The program will also teach students the difference in colors, fabrics, fashion trends, popular designers, and much more.

Classes begin on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016 at 1 PM to 2 PM, or from 2 PM to 3 PM at the Morris Township Municipal Building, 50 Woodland Ave. The program runs for six consecutive Saturdays. The fee for the program will be $20 per student.

The Township of Morris will Hold Children’s Chess Classes
The goal of the Chess program is to teach children the strategic game of chess. Chess is an intellectual game which builds concentration, determination, self esteem and sportsmanship. Registration is limited to 12 per class. Classes begin on Wednesday, March 2, and Thursday, March 3, for six weeks from 6 PM- 7 PM. Children in grades 1 through 8 are eligible to sign up. Registration is $25 per participant.

  1. Girls’s softball (grades 1 to 6) is an especially good deal. As a coach, I look forward to this every year. We emphasize safety and sportsmanship, but we do compete as well. The more teams we can get, the better the program is. Parents are encouraged to sign up soon.
