Video: Wishing you a Merry Tuba Christmas, video by Jeff Sovelove
Bitter winds and grey skies could not damp the holiday spirit of 120 musicians who puckered up for Saturday’s Merry Tuba Christmas on the Morristown Green.
This was the biggest turnout yet for the concert, which marked its fourth year in town.
Tuba and euphonium Players came from as far West Milford; White Plains, NY; and even Rhode Island.
They ranged in age from 12 to 75. Some 20 schools were represented, according to Morristown High School Band Director Doug Rutan.
Rutan took a turn at the baton, and then handed it off to his friends, Matt Paterno and John Palatucci.
Scores of these concerts are held around the world, continuing a tradition dating to 1974 at Rockefeller Center, where Harvey Phillips paid tribute to his late teacher, tuba legend William J. Bell.
Our thanks to MorristownGreen.com contributor Jeff Sovelove for braving the elements to record this weekend’s merriment.
