Morristown firefighters put out a kitchen fire at the End of Elm, a tavern on Morris Street near the train station, on Saturday afternoon.

The fire seems to have started in a wall behind the oven and spread to the second floor, said Fire Chief Robert Flanagan.

Nobody was injured and the fire was extinguished with minimal damage to the upper floor, which houses a dance studio and some other businesses, Flanagan said.  The fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature, he said.

Firefighters responded at 3:19 pm and had wrapped up at the scene by about 5 pm, the chief said.

About a half-dozen employees were evacuated; it’s unclear whether any customers were dining at End of Elm at the time, the chief said.

Health officials were contacted, and the pub probably will be closed until Monday, Flanagan said.

  1. This fire department started as a volunteer fire department organized by Alfred and George vail in 1827. Still active today, Morristown can be proud of all the men and women who continue to devote their time and risk their lives to keep us safe.

  2. A most dedicated dept for years. These men that lay their lives on the line over & over as the town residents have seen. They receive not nearly enough recognition. It is one dept that has a dedicated, as well a true caring for Morristown and the job each is paid to do. Kudos to MFD.
