The Interfaith Food Pantry and Literacy Volunteers of Morris County will host their 9th annual “Turkey Trot,” a 5k race, 1 mile fun run/walk and Kids Trot on Thursday, November 26th at Ginty Field Complex in Morris Township.

Registration begins at 7 am and the 5k starts promptly at 8:30. The race is USATF certified, takes place rain or shine and is typically over by 10 am.

Sponsored by Dixon Energy and the North Jersey Development Group, the event includes music, refreshments, awards and t-shirts.  Participants are encouraged to register online at www.morristownshipturkeytrot.org to avoid the lines.

Entry fees for 5K are $30 by Nov. 18th through the mail and Nov. 24th online ($27 for USATF members). Entry fees are $35 after that or on race day. One mile is $25/$30 and Kid’s Trot (12 and under) is $10.

Last year, the race drew over 2,400 participants of all ages and abilities.

“The race has become a holiday tradition for so many local families,” said Rosemary Gilmartin, Executive Director of the Interfaith Food Pantry. “What better way to celebrate the spirit of Thanksgiving than by burning off a few of those calories while helping others.”

The IFP provides emergency and supplemental groceries to about 5,000 Morris County households each year and distributes on average,  1.7 tons of food per day. The LVMC provides free one-on-one and small group tutoring in basic English and ESL to more than 500 Morris County adults.
