It’s been a tough week for Morristown.

First, the town got edged out by Maplewood for best downtown in a magazine’s  “downtown showdown.”

And now, Morristown has been “bested” in a list of New Jersey’s drunkest cities.

Atlantic City and Belmar tied for top honors in a decidedly unscientific survey by a website called RoadSnacks.  Morristown finished third.

Rankings were based on bars and liquor stores per capita, divorce rates and “drunk-related Tweets.”

Morristown Tweet: “It’s kinda weird seeing your High school teacher when you’re drunk in Morristown.”

(For the record, Morristown was reported as seventh in bars per capita and 15th in liquor stores per capita, with an 11 percent divorce rate.  There were many Tweets about drinking and driving, the site said.)

Rounding out the Top 10: Red Bank, Highlands, Butler, Asbury Park, Wildwood, Hoboken and Paulsboro.

The Top 50 included Morris County communities Wharton (20), Mt. Arlington (23), Madison (37), Dover (41) and Morris Plains (44).

We were going to say better luck next time… but on second thought, this award probably would not look great on the “Welcome to Morristown” sign.
