The rise of the American textile industry in the 19th century suddenly gave women money and time to fret about their appearance.

Louis A. Godey sensed opportunity.  From around 1830 to 1860, his Godey’s Lady’s Book served as an indispensable guide to fashion and etiquette.

On Sunday, a fashion show at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum showed off Godey’s “latest” styles, from the 1800s.

MorristownGreen.com contributor Jeff Sovelove was there with his camera to capture the finery, along with the September splendor in the gardens.

Our thanks to Jeff for giving us a front row seat to both pageants.
