No one is buying the State’s excuses for knocking down Greystone, and citizens are rightly appalled that the State is actually going through with it.

And not just in NJ.

Across the country, Kirkbride buildings like Greystone have been successfully restored using private money, and these priceless structures now serve their communities in proud new roles. Some of them were in much worse condition than Greystone when restoration began.

Those who have witnessed the revitalization of these grand old buildings are aghast at the opportunity being squandered here in New Jersey for private redevelopment of Greystone, shocked by the senseless destruction of a public heirloom and the waste of public money, and alarmed at the apparently slipshod remediation of lead and asbestos.

In an unprecedented demonstration of solidarity with New Jersey’s citizens, simultaneous gatherings in front of successfully restored Kirkbride buildings in other states will take place this Sunday, May 31, 2015, at noon.

Group photos will be taken at all sites. Preserve Greystone will be there at Greystone under the big tree near the top of Central Avenue (to the left as you face the building) for this demonstration of solidarity. We hope to see you there too.
