Calling all student and amateur photographers!

Morristown’s 70 South Gallery is planning its next five exhibitions — including one that will feature iconic/ memorable moments for the Fourth of July — and your work could be showcased.

Gallery owner Ted Baldanzi and his team rotate shows every six weeks, and gifted students   always are part of the mix.

Kelly Ganning, Fiona Mullen, and Sarah Yensel from Morristown High School; Matt Rice from Pingry; and Adam Kosecki, from Delbarton, have been among the featured photographers so far.

“It was my first opportunity to speak a lot about my work in front of a large group of people. I loved the interaction and was really excited with the turnout,” Mullen said in a statement.

“I benefited greatly from being put on the same level of professionalism as adults and other paid photographers, added Ganning.

Below are details from 70 South about how to submit your work.

70 South Gallery – Morristown’s Premier Photography Destination Announces a “Call for Student Photographers”

Morristown, N.J April 7, 2015 – Started by Ted Baldanzi, a well-known local photographer, father and avid supporter of youth sports, 70 South Gallery, at 70 South Street, has a very unique business model and approach to photography.

It is Morristown’s first unique community-focused photography gallery and service center. It combines a local, in-person venue where you can get expert and personal attention and service for all of your photography and video needs —while also supporting the local community in the process.

The gallery features about up to five different photographers that rotate every six weeks or so, always including a student/amateur photographer in each exhibit.

Ted wanted 70 South Gallery to foster the love of photography among young people. He has continuously encouraged and helped students become involved in the craft. Whether helping many seek careers in photography and its various branches, to having their work showcased outside the schools, Ted has always been an advocate for photography, and the young. His passion has helped so many see, feel and capture their own special moments.

To date, the gallery has featured the following amateur/student photographers: Kelly Ganning, Fiona Mullen, and Sarah Yensel from Morristown High School, Matt Rice from Pingry and Adam Kosecki, from Delbarton.

“The most valuable thing was definitely the informal lens!” says Mullen. “It was my first
opportunity to speak a lot about my work in front of a large group of people. I loved the
interaction and was really excited with the turn out.

“I benefited greatly from being put on the same level of professionalism as adults and other paid photographers, says Ganning.

“I think that presenting my work during the opening showcases was the biggest challenge and that learning how to talk about my work and answer people’s questions eloquently and professionally was a great experience that a student should have. I appreciated that I was treated like an adult while working with 70 South and that knowledge has prepared me for so many other experiences that are waiting for me in the future.”

Today, they are reaching out to public and private schools in the Morristown NJ area to find students that would like to be a featured photographer and are accepting applications for the next five exhibitions, including one focused on memorable or iconic moments in America’s history to coincide with the July 4th holiday.

If you are interesting in submitting your background and work as an amateur/student photographer—for the historical or iconic moments in America’s history—or you simply want to be part of a regular exhibit, please contact Ira L. Black  or visit the 70 South Gallery website at www.70SouthGallery.com.
