Sister Joan is a well-known international lecturer on topics of justice, peace, human rights, women’s issues and contemporary spirituality in the church and in society. She presently serves as the co-chair of the Global Peace Initiative of Women, a partner organization of the United Nations, facilitating a worldwide network of women peace builders, especially in the Middle East.

Her most recent book is Between the Dark and the Daylight: Embracing the Contradictions of Life, February 2015.  She is founder and executive director of Benetvision, a resource for contemporary spirituality.

The John Shelby Spong Lectureship series honors The Right Rev. John Shelby Spong, who retired as Bishop of the Diocese of Newark in 2000, for his commitment to analyzing the narrow theological structures of long-established teachings of the Bible.

His themes have not been without controversy.  He asks his listeners to open their minds to scientific reality, their hearts to compassion for one another, and their souls to the love of God not bound by traditional interpretation.

The lectureship periodically brings world-class theologians, biblical scholars, church historians and liturgists to St. Peter’s, its larger community, and to the Diocese of Newark.

Tickets, which are $20 for adults and $10 for students with valid ID,  can be purchased online at stpetersmorristown.org or at the door.
