Morristown and Morris Township officials are warning of a phone scam making the rounds.  This is from Mayor Tim Dougherty’s office:

Water Utilities Reporting Customer Discount Scams

Two large water utilities in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area are reporting a new, ongoing scam to steal account information from customers. In recent days, individuals pretending to be from the utilities have contacted residents offering discounts on water bills and asking for account information, presumably to steal credit

If you receive any calls from Southeast Morris County Municipalities Authority (SMCMUA) and are unsure if the call is legitimate, please hang up and contact SMCMUA directly. The Customer Service number is 973-326-6880 or you can email SMCMUA at customerservice@smcmua.org.
