Meet Audra Mariel.

She’s a friend of Frank Vignola. And any friend of Frank’s …

Frank Vignola & Friends were featured last weekend at the Sanctuary concert series in Chatham, for an evening billed as a birthday party for the late guitarist Django Reinhardt, of gypsy jazz fame.

Frank, a consummate showman and one of the smoothest guitar players anywhere, assembled an impressive ensemble, starting with his sidekick and protégé, Vinny Raniolo.

Gary Mazzaroppi proved a standup guy on bass, Jason Annick fiddled the night away, and special guest star Al Caiolo, one of the great session guitarists of all time, shared some of the licks he’s honed over the last 94 years.  (Stay tuned here for more on Al.)

And to spice up the instrumentals, Frank introduced Audra.  The Colts Neck native has been showcased by WNYC music maven Jonathan Schwartz, and after hearing her croon this classic tune, we understand why.

Next up at the Sanctuary:  George Winston on March 28, 2015, and
Shawn Colvin on April 10.
