Landing on a comet was the stuff of science fiction . . . until the European Space Agency achieved that astounding feat this month.

Singer Lucy Kaplansky saluted this achievement last Friday at The Minstrel in Morris Township.

On an Asteroid With You was written be Lucy’s late father, Irving Kaplansky, who taught math at Harvard and the University of Chicago and wrote quirky songs for fun. Lucy has recorded an album of these tunes, Kaplansky Sings Kaplansky, available for sale at her concerts.

We know that asteroids and comets are not exactly the same animal. But you wouldn’t split hairs if one was barreling at the earth. And asteroid sounds more lyrical, don’t you think?

Stay tuned for more gems from this concert, which also featured folk giant Jonathan Edwards. Next up at The Minstrel: Mike Agranoff, on Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, singing songs from his new CD, “Straight Lines.” Ken and Pat Rolston and Hen3ry Nerenberg open the 8 pm show. Tickets are $9, children 12 and under are free. At the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship, 21 Normandy Heights Road, Morris Township.
