Gift Greenbacks and Santa Claus — now there’s a one-two punch that’s hard to beat.

Both are coming to Morristown right after you’ve eaten your Thanksgiving leftovers.

On Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, the Morristown Partnership reprises its “Small Business Saturday” gift certificate special offer, from 10 a.m. until the certificates sell out.

And around 5 pm on Sunday, Nov. 30, Santa makes his triumphant descent from the Century 21 rooftop for another Yule season in his bungalow on the Morristown Green.

Oh, and one more reminder from the Partnership: The Morristown Farmers Market concludes its 24th season on Sunday, Nov. 23.

GREEN CHRISTMAS

Okay, so here’s how the Greenbacks special works. For every $50 of certificates you buy, the Partnership will throw in another $20 of certificates as a bonus. They are good at 200 downtown businesses and restaurants, said Jennifer Wehring of the Partnership.

This one-day sale starts at 10 am on Nov. 29, at the Partnership office on 14 Maple Ave., and lasts until the $5,000 supply runs out. (Which happened in about two hours last year.)

There is a $700 limit  ($500 purchased/ $200 bonus) per household; bring valid I.D. You don’t have to be a Morristown resident, however.

Can’t stand lines?  Gift Greenbacks can be purchased all month from the Partnership, during normal business hours.

The bonus is just a little smaller — $10 free for every $50 of certificates you buy.  The Partnership has earmarked $10,000 for this program, now in its fourth year.  Once that amount of certificates is sold, the promotion is over.

“Shop Local,” Jenn said. “It’s so important to support local businesses.”

LUMINARY SANTA

Santa will arrive with appropriate fanfare — and a little help from the Morristown fire department — for the annual lighting of the Green on Nov. 30.  Children of all ages, including grown-up children, are invited to welcome the jolly old elf.

You can show him your Christmas list later that evening, or return to his Santa House any time over the following three weekends.

The final weekend will be extended, Jenn said, with visiting hours on Friday, Dec. 19, and Monday, Dec. 22.

And the kiddie choo-choo will return to the Green, too, along with lots more holiday entertainment, Jenn said.

One new addition, in conjunction with Morris Arts, will be a “luminary parade.”  No, they’re not talking about astronauts or movie stars. These will be festive lights. Sort of like last month’s Halloween pumpkin illumination… without the pumpkins.

Morristown won’t be lacking for good cheer, in other words.

“If you come here with nothing to do, you will definitely find something!” Jenn promised.
