Military precision: U.S. Army Field Band raises the bar in Morris Township

They say there are no atheists in a foxhole. You probably won’t find too many brass bands, either.

Which is too bad–they would make the stay much more pleasant.

Certainly, the U.S. Army Field Band and Soldiers Chorus would.

Led by Commander Timothy Holtan, this prestigious outfit regaled a big crowd at Ginty Field on Tuesday with sparkling interpretations of everyone from John Philip Sousa to Barry Manilow.

Add a smattering of John Williams, a pinch of Leonard Bernstein and some Celtic music for seasoning, and you have one crowd-pleasing recipe.

This is a tough act to follow. But the rock band Aftermath will do its best on Aug. 5, 2014, courtesy of the Morris Township Parks and Recreation Department and Provident Bank.

And there is a free movie tonight, July 30. The Nut Job promises family fun starting at 7 pm, back at Ginty Field on Woodland Avenue.
