Barenaked Ladies in Morristown: Seal the border!

It’s time to close the border.

That’s obvious to anyone who saw Barenaked Ladies  at the Mayo Performing Arts Center  in Morristown on Tuesday.

How many more times must we endure artists from puny Canada embarrassing us with their over-sized talent while poking fun at our brick-oven pizzerias and mocking our rap music?  Oh, the humiliation!

If I had a million dollars, I would seal the border myself, with duct tape.

Ed Robertson, Jim Creeggan, Kevin Hearn and Tyler Stewart have a lot of nerve, blowing through the Lower 48 like a polar vortex, making us dance around, sing along and yuck it up like servile sled dogs.

(Robertson said he enjoyed the sushi at Nagano–“down the street, across the square, and up the stairs”–after rousing the hostess from slumber. Hey, Morristown is a sleepy hamlet and proud of it!)

Odds Are, the Ladies think we Yanks will dash out and buy all their catchy numbers, like Brian Wilson, Blame it On Me, The Old Apartment, Did I Say That Out Loud? and, especially in Morristown, Alcohol.

Make a Big Bang, then steal away with our cheap U.S. dollars, eh?

The fact is, BNL takes music way too seriously. That was evidenced by improvisational exercises such as Sandwiches and a scholarly medley exploring the history of American popular music from Lou Reed to Miley Cyrus.

(For the record, last night’s lesson included Walk on the Wild Side, Survivor’s Eye of the Tiger, Macklemore’s Can’t Hold Us and Miley’s Wrecking Ball).

The Barenaked truth is, these Ladies never will amount to much unless they learn to lighten up.

😉

In the meantime, let’s deport them back to puck country so we can resume our lives of quiet desperation.
