Imagine being a child thrust into foster care, after suffering abuse, neglect or abandonment by your family.
It’s a frightening proposition all the way around. But volunteers from CASA–short for the Court Appointed Special Advocate program–offer some comfort.
Their nonprofit agency served more than 300 youths in Morris and Sussex counties over the last year, providing adult role models and advocating in court on behalf of kids who otherwise would be voiceless and friendless.
On July 10, 2014, the Morris County Bar Foundation will host its 10th annual Lawyers for Kids 5K to benefit CASA.
The race starts at Ginty Field in Morris Township at 7 pm. There also is a two-mile walk and a kids gallop. Organizers hope to top last year’s turnout of 450 participants. Registration for the 5K or the walk is $25; the kids gallop is $5.
The evening also features live music by The Imposters, and a deejay. Participants get t-shirts, snacks and a shot at random prizes.
On July 24, the Morris County Bar Foundation will host its annual Golf & Tennis Outing, in partnership with Legal Services of Northwest Jersey, which provides free legal services to low-income people in Morris, Sussex, Somerset, Warren and Hunterdon counties.
That fundraiser is at the Cedar Hill Country Club in Livingston. Registration details are on the bar foundation’s website.
