Learn to save lives…and make little kids happy for Christmas.

That’s a pretty good two-fer, courtesy of the Morristown Ambulance Squad.

It’s offering CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation) classes on Dec. 14, 2013, at a discounted rate of $25.  At the same time, the squad will collect new, unwrapped toys, suitable for children ages 5-11. The toys will be distributed at the Morristown Neighborhood House, to children in programs there.

A pair of four-hour CPR classes will be offered at town hall, at 200 South St.  One session will start at 8:30 am and another at 2:30 pm.  Those who complete either session will receive certification in adult-, child-, and infant CPR, and automated external defibrillator use, according to a statement from the squad.

Only 12 students will be accepted for each class; details on how to register are below.

Toys Will Be Donated to Morristown Neighborhood House

The Morristown Ambulance Squad will be offering two CPR classes to the Morristown community on December 14, 2013 at Morristown Town Hall, Room 201, 200 South Street, Morristown to support the Morristown Neighborhood House. Participants will be charged a discounted rate of $25 and asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy, suitable for a child aged 5-11, for donation. All toys collected will be given to the Morristown Neighborhood House for its holiday classroom adoption program, which provides holiday toys to the children in the House’s programs. There will be two classes offered, one from 8:30am to 12:30pm and the other from 2:30pm to 6:30pm. Participation is limited to 12 students in each class, and participants must register in advance by emailing CPR@morristownnjems.org. The Morristown Ambulance Squad plans to offer additional community CPR classes throughout 2014 at the regular rate of $50. Anyone interested in future CPR training offerings through the Squad should email CPR@morristownnjems.org.

According to the American Heart Association website, each year almost 383,000 sudden cardiac arrests occur; 4 out of 5 of these events occur at home. A bystander that provides effective CPR immediately following a sudden cardiac arrest can double or triple the victim’s chance of survival.
