If it happened three times, it could happen again.
Superstorm Sandy, the October 2011 snowstorm and Tropical Storm Irene pounded home the fickle, ferocious nature of Mother Nature. The takeaway lesson: It pays to be prepared.
A free expo will tell residents how. It’s scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm at the Morris County Public Safety Complex, at 500 W. Hanover Ave. in Parsippany.
Emergency management experts will share practical tips, attendees will receive free emergency kits courtesy of State Farm Insurance, and an emergency generator will be raffled.
“We’ve gotten hammered the last few years with weather. A little preparedness makes a difference in protecting your family,” said William Schievella, president of the New Jersey Police Community Affairs Officers Association and former chief of detectives for the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.
The expo is a joint presentation of the New Jersey Police Community Affairs Officers Association, the Morris County Office of Emergency Management and the northern New Jersey chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives. It’s sponsored by State Farm.
Although the event is free, there only is room for about 100 people, so anyone interested should reserve in advance by emailing wschievella@co.morris.nj.us or by calling 973-829-8600.
