According to T-Bone Walker, the eagle flies on Friday. This past Friday, at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, the eagle that is Gregg Allman soared as he played to a sold out house.

For those who have been living without radio for the last few decades, Gregg Allman is one of the founding members of The Allman Brothers Band, a group that was pivotal in the creation of “Southern Rock.”

Gregg has told interviewers that the term is redundant. So many elements of rock and roll music originated in the South, he says, that saying Southern Rock is like saying “Rock-Rock.”

Whatever you call it, it sure sounded good on Friday.  And it’s no wonder, with his current lineup:

  • Keyboard: Ben Stivers
  • Horns: Jay Collins
  • Guitar: Scott Sharrard
  • Drums: Steve Potts
  • Percussion: Marc Quiñones
  • Bass: Jerry Jemmott
  • Hammond Organ and Guitar: Gregg Allman

Each member of the band is a musical master, and they added up to an unforgettable concert of songs from Gregg’s and The Allman Brothers’ extensive repertoire. Some highlights included:

  1. Statesboro Blues
  2. I’m No Angel
  3. Queen of Hearts
  4. I Can’t Be Satisfied (Muddy Waters)
  5. These Days
  6. Aint Wastin’ Time No More
  7. Stormy Monday (T-Bone Walker)
  8. Before the Bullets Fly (Warren Haynes)
  9. Hot ‘Lanta
  10. I Found A Love (Wilson Pickett)
  11. One Way Out
  12. Melissa
  13. Instrumental Jam
  14. Don’t Keep Me Wondering
  15. Midnight Rider

  1. I wish I had been there. They played many of my favorites. Glad to see them playing songs from “Low Country Blues”. I love that album. But, then, I love them all.
