Talk about big years. Cornerstone Family Programs celebrated its 200th anniversary, re-branded itself, and expanded its reach by welcoming the Morristown Neighborhood House as a subsidiary.

For its efforts, the Morristown-based nonprofit has been honored as  “Agency of the Year” by the Alliance for Children and Families, a national membership association headquartered in Milwaukee.

“This has been a year of historic change and innovation for us,” Cornerstone CEO Patrice Picard said in a statement, “and to be recognized for our success by the Alliance is truly an honor.”

The Alliance also recognized the Children’s Home of Cincinnati and Metropolitan Family Services in Chicago.

Cornerstone also was praised for identifying gaps in services for seniors with challenging behaviors, establishing an Intensive Geriatric Case Management program, and developing a program to provide counseling and case management for hundreds of soldiers, veterans and their families.

Local Nonprofit Receives National Award

Cornerstone Family Programs recognized by national membership association as Agency of the Year

Morristown, N.J. – October 17, 2013 – Cornerstone Family Programs is one of three recipients of an Agency of the Year award presented by the national membership association Alliance for Children and Families, headquartered in Milwaukee.

Cornerstone Family Programs was chosen to receive the award because of its demonstrated excellence in board participation and support; impact through advocacy efforts on local, state, or national levels; and innovative programming in the past 12 months. Representatives from Cornerstone accepted the award at the 2013 Alliance National Conference on Oct. 17 in Minneapolis.

“The Alliance is pleased to honor Cornerstone Family Programs with this award and to have this community asset as part of our network of members,” said Susan Dreyfus, president and CEO of the Alliance.

“This has been a year of historic change and innovation for us,” noted Patrice Picard, CEO of Cornerstone Family Programs, “and to be recognized for our success by the Alliance is truly an honor.”

Celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2013, Cornerstone Family Programs planned several events focused around celebration, fundraising, and education. In addition, Cornerstone undertook a complete re-branding that included a name change to better reflect its services and geographic area served. The name was changed from Family Service of Morris County.

To meet one of its major strategic goals, Cornerstone made Morristown Neighborhood House one of its subsidiaries in 2013, not only doubling its size, but increasing the number of people served to 10,000 each year. The move also brought together two significant community providers into one.

Leading a task force of local senior providers to identify gaps in services for seniors with challenging behaviors led to Cornerstone’s Intensive Geriatric Case Management program. In addition, when a great number of New Jersey National Guard were deployed in 2008, Cornerstone developed and implemented a comprehensive military family program that has subsequently served hundreds of soldiers, veterans, and families in case management and counseling.

Cornerstone Family Programs is a 200 year-old private, nonprofit organization that strengthens the community by empowering individuals and families to overcome life’s challenges.  Cornerstone along with it’s subsidiary, Morristown Neighborhood House, build better lives and stronger communities through innovative programs serving 10,000 children, adults and seniors.
