Downed wires blamed for knocking out power for 2,000 customers in Morristown and Morris Township

Downed power lines are being blamed for knocking out power to 2,000 residents of Morristown and Morris Township on Sunday afternoon.

Lines went down on George Street in Morristown causing outages at 4:30 pm, said Michael Obremski, a spokesman for Jersey Central Power & Light.

Power was restored at 9:13 pm.

Affected areas included Burnham Park, straddling Morristown and the Township, and The Seeing Eye Inc. headquarters in the Township, Michael said.

Gusty winds blew through Morristown on Sunday, knocking over canopies and signs at the Gran Fondo NJ  biking event. But it was not immediately clear what brought down the power lines, according to the spokesman.

The number of customers affected in each town was about the same, he said.

  1. The story says Morristown and Morris Township were affected; the caption says Morristown and Morris Plains…. I think the story is correct.

BTW, we still don’t know what caused the downed wires. And, the power was on and off, on and off for a while before going out completely.
