Four chairs, Five Guys: St. Peter’s mission trip hits the road, from Morristown to Topsail

Editor’s note: ‘Tis the season for mission trips. We’re delighted once again to share the adventures of the Youth Group from St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, which has ventured from Morristown to Topsail, N.C.

Saturday we woke up and met in the parking lot at the early hour of 6:30, when not too many people were conscious. We packed our stuff into the cargo van and loaded ourselves into the vans (boys in one, girls in the other).

First hour, it was fairly quiet in the girls’ van, but soon boredom crept into the seats behind us. A few of our companions started to shout uncontrollably, this went on until we made our first rest stop. Quietness… Mumbling… Rowdiness…

When we finally stopped for lunch we had realized the the boys’ van had vanished. When called they claimed that they were following us (apparently not).

Later we learned the boys’ van had stopped for lunch at Five Guys (while we had McDonald’s), and  let’s just say that when we got back on the road we were a little jealous. (I, personally, have never understood Five Guys; there are only four chairs at each table).

In Washington D.C. we visited the Air and Space Museum. The museum was interesting and crowded, but the coolness of the floors made up for the suffocating body heat.

After another few hours of listening to music, reading books, and passing around what should have been too much candy for us to eat we decided to eat dinner at Cracker Barrel. This time we managed to keep track of the boys’ van. The waiters were a little shocked when we asked for a table for 25, but we managed to fit.

Cracker Barrel was left in the dust with some very Splenda-ed mac’n’cheese. The last stretch of road was a stretch for our sanity as we endured some singing, shouting, and pouting. We were very relieved to reach the church.
