Morristown police: Drug arrest uncovers weapon

Morristown police said they discovered a handgun loaded with a hollow-point bullet during a drug arrest on Monday.

Three men were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana after Officer Roberto Rosado saw them parked in a rented 2013 Chevy Tahoe SUV parked on Clyde Potts Drive at 9:21 pm on April 29, 2013, reported Police Capt. Steve Sarinelli.

morristown police badgeIn the course of his investigation, Officer Rosado “observed a handgun in the rear seat pocket in the area directly in front of where Mr. [Daniel] Godfrey had been seated,” Capt. Sarinelli reported.

“It was determined that the handgun was loaded with a single hollow-point round. Additional items of paraphernalia were discovered which indicated that this suspected marijuana had been intended for distribution.”

Daniel Godfrey, 21, of Morristown was charged with possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon during a drug crime, and distribution of drugs within 500 feet of public housing. He was remanded to the Morris County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Claude Davis, 23, and Cliff J. Harris, 22, both of Parsippany, were charged with possession of marijuana.
