The College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), 2 Convent Road, Morristown, N.J., Board of Trustees is pleased to announce it has appointed Dr. Helen J. Streubert, as its seventh president. Dr. Streubert will succeed Sister Francis Raftery, S.C., Ed.D., who is completing her term and ministry at the College on June 30, 2013, after 38 years of service with 16 years of excellent and inspired leadership as the College’s president. Currently Dr. Streubert is Vice President of Academic Affairs for Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. She will be the first lay president in the 114-year history of the College of Saint Elizabeth.
Dr. Streubert was selected after a thorough, nationwide search by a Presidential Search Committee, comprised of seven CSE Board of Trustees members and The Director of Sponsorship for the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, who sponsor the College.
“We chose Dr. Streubert based on her strong credentials and abilities to continue the College of Saint Elizabeth’s 114-year-old tradition of academic excellence with a strong commitment to the development of leadership in a spirit of service and social responsibility for others,” commented Sister Rosemary Moynihan, chair of the CSE Board of Trustees and general superior of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth. “We know that Dr. Streubert will carry forward the spirit and mission of the College as exemplified over these many years, most recently under the dedicated and gifted leadership of Sister Francis Raftery, S.C. The president-elect possesses an understanding and an appreciation of the College’s long history; she is well prepared to meet the challenges facing higher education today.”
College President Sister Francis said Dr. Streubert is “a dedicated, inspiring leader who is committed to academic excellence and the development of leaders for the 21st Century. Dr. Streubert will continue the Sister of Charity mission that is at the heart of the College’s mission.”
Dr. Streubert is very humble and proud to have been appointed as the first lay president at the College of Saint Elizabeth. “Sister Francis Raftery is leaving a legacy of growth and advancement that I plan to continue. As a first generation, Catholic female college graduate and leader in Catholic higher education, I feel uniquely qualified to serve as the next CSE president. The key to the success of any leader is her ability to maintain vision and direction. Together with the college community, we will develop the next strategic plan to provide a strong road map to the future. I am looking forward to meeting the CSE campus community, alumni, benefactors and friends to learn more about the history of this great institution founded and sponsored by the Sisters of Charity; understanding and advancing its brand; and planning for her future so we may best serve our students.”

Dr. Streubert has served Our Lady of the Lake University during an important time in higher education nationally. Working closely with deans, faculty and staff as vice president for academic affairs, she has led OLLU to reaffirmation of reaccreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, facilitated the launching of new programs face-to-face and online nationally, and focused very intently and successfully on student retention and graduate rates. Dr. Streubert Brings to Her New Position an Extensive Background in Higher Education
Dr. Streubert has an extensive background in higher education. As vice president of academic affairs at Our Lady of the Lake University since 2008, she presently leads an academic leadership team of eight, including two academic deans, the dean of the library, the associate vice president of academic affairs, the assistant vice president of continued learning, the registrar and the director of sponsored research. She has been involved with program growth including new majors in health care, the arts, social sciences, STEM and the expansion of offerings in offsite locations in Leadership Studies and Cyber Security. Dr. Streubert was the associate vice president of academic affairs at Misericordia University in Dallas, Pa. from 2006 to 2008 having served in other academic capacities while at the university for more than 16 years. She has authored numerous articles and books, and has been the recipient of many professional honors and awards including induction into the Teachers College, Columbia University, Nursing Education Hall of Fame. Dr. Streubert also serves as Trustee at Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire.
The College of Saint Elizabeth is an independent Catholic institution of higher learning, sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth of New Jersey. Founded as a liberal arts college for women in 1899, it has developed into a comprehensive institution. As such, it offers programs in the humanities, in the natural, physical, and social sciences and in professional areas such as business, education, nursing and other health-related areas. In addition to the Women’s College, the College offers coeducational program for adult learners who enroll as Continuing Studies or Graduate students.
