Calling all young artists!

The Third Annual MG Kids Art Show is now accepting submissions for exhibit May 3-12 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morristown.

Last year’s show featured more than 300 pieces of art from throughout our community and beyond, and we’re hoping to make this year’s show even bigger.

Submissions may be dropped off at the parish hall at the church on South Street through April 26. Arrangements also can be made to drop off submissions the weekend of April 27-28 by contacting MG Kids Editor Sharon Sheridan at MGKids@sharonsheridan.com or 973-927-6192.

Art in all media from artists in preschool through high school is welcome. It is helpful but not required that pieces be mounted for display. Please include the artist’s name and age or grade, or school or other affiliation, for display with the artwork, as well as contact information. Artwork may be retrieved the week of May 13 at the parish hall.

A Grand Opening of the art show, with arts activities and “food art” with Chef Melody of the Main Event, will be held from 3-6 p.m. May 3. A free jazz coffeehouse featuring the Peter Moffitt Medicine Show will follow at 7 p.m.

On May 7, poets and other spoken-word artists of all ages are invited to perform in WordPlay III.

And on May 11, children ages 6-13 can participate in a full day of hands-on workshops led by professional artists in pottery, mural painting, music, poetry, drama and eco-sculpture. A registration form is available here, and scholarships are available.

Volunteers and donations also are welcome to help make the festival possible!

Funding has been made possible in part by funds from the Arts Council of the Morris Area (now Morris Arts) through the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
