Victory is Sweet!

Yes, it’s finally true.  The official results of the Saris Bike Corral Contest are in.  Bike and Walk Morristown’s (BWM) entry did indeed take the campaign by storm and resulted in a win for the many riders in the greater Morristown area.

It’s clear that Morristown won because of you.  And you.  And you.  Our community’s outpouring of support was displayed throughout the week.  From our local nonprofits and media, to our businesses, and to people like you and me.  So many shared on Facebook, tweeted on Twitter, wrote articles and voted for BWM.  One person even admitted to stalking their friends on Facebook and sending them private message pleas to vote for Morristown!  Yes, I plead no contest!

From Kendra Arnold, co-founder of BWM and author of the winning entry, ‘It is also great to see so many towns wanting to have bike corrals in their towns; places like Morristown and Concord, and tons of schools who wanted kids to be able to have a place to store their bikes, to brewpubs and ice cream shops and bookstores.  It really shows a shift in thinking about how people want to get around and experience the places where they are living.’

Jayme Siegel, an avid BWM Tuesday morning walker shared that ‘winning this bike corral shows what a wonderfully supportive community Morristown and the Township are.  We made this happen by working together – the citizens of Morristown, including the staff and students of Morristown High School, Morristown businesses and the local and state media.  It really does say a lot about this community!’

Celebrate with BWM tonight at their Meatless Monday Ride!  Meet up at 6:30 pm by Drip, a new coffee joint on the Green and ride to Carmel Haifa for a yummy, meatless (obviously!) dinner.

My next stop?  Marty’s to buy some baskets to carry my groceries home in from King’s.  Who knows?  Maybe I’ll progress to the Gran Fondo NJ or Israel Ride!

A 13-year resident of Morristown, Marcy can be found leading one of Bike and Walk Morristown’s weekly walks from the Vail Mansion on Tuesday mornings at 8, posting, commenting and sharing on Facebook about the many organizations she loves and supports, madly trying to use the abundance of produce she gets from the Community Supported Garden (CSG) at Genesis Farm and attempting to organize her home.  Some of those efforts are more successful than others!
