A corral for Kings?  What?  Are we returning to the days of horse drawn buggies?

Hardly.  A bike corral is a bike rack that holds up to ten bicycles securely and frees up sidewalk space for pedestrians. Bike and Walk Morristown (BWM) wants  to install a bike corral adjacent to Kings.

Why there?  In the words of Kendra Arnold who submitted BWM’s entry, ‘Kings is one of two main supermarkets in our town of about 20,000 and giving people who are already riding there a secure and cool place to lock up their bike would be fantastic. A bike corral like this would encourage other people to bring their bikes out on trips around town.’

Last week, Bike and Walk Morristown officially entered a contest through Saris Cycle Racks to win a Bicycle Corral for our town.  Strong support from our community, local organizations and companies helped propel us into first place for Round One.

That’s right; Morristown won the preliminary round!  The final round of voting began this past Monday and runs through FRIDAY, April 5.  While we had to start this Final Round from zero, we’ve already surpassed the 230 votes from last week.

But, and it’s a BIG but, we’re currently in second place.  We need EVERYONE to vote and ask their family, friends and neighbors to vote too.

Just as the Town Council passed our new Bicycle Plan last month, let’s ensure that our efforts to make Morristown a more bicycle and pedestrian friendly community continue.

So I ask, on behalf of Morristown and BWM, sign onto your Facebook page now, click the link below, vote for Morristown and share!  Be aware that it works easiest on a laptop.  Remember, the last day to vote is Friday.  That’s only 2 days away…

Bike and Walk Morristown thanks you.  Morristown thanks you.  And I thank you.

A 13-year resident of Morristown, Marcy can be found leading one of Bike and Walk Morristown’s weekly walks from the Vail Mansion on Tuesday mornings at 8, posting, commenting and sharing on Facebook about the many organizations she loves and supports, madly trying to use the abundance of produce she gets from the Community Supported Garden (CSG) at Genesis Farm and attempting to organize her home.  Some of those efforts are more successful than others!
