Morristown police investigating gunshots on Abbett Avenue

Morristown police are investigating gunshots fired at Abbett Avenue on Monday night.

morristown police badgeShell casings were found on the avenue, near New Street, reported Police Capt. Steve Sarinelli.  Police responded to a 7:32 pm call reporting that shots were heard, along with sounds of a vehicle accelerating from the scene.

So far, there are no reports of injuries, or any connection to other incidents, the captain said in a statement.  The caller did not provide a description of the vehicle.

Detectives from the Morris County Sheriff’s Office collected the evidence.

Anyone with information, or who witnessed anything suspicious, is asked to call Morristown Police Detective Teddy Jones at 973-292-6642. Information also may be provided anonymously through Morris County Crime Stoppers at 973-COP-CALL.

A double-shooting on Abbett Avenue in October 2011 sent two people to the hospital and culminated seven months later in 24 arrests, spanning four counties, on an assortment of gang, gun and drug charges.
