As members of the College of Saint Elizabeth community traveled in and out of the Annunciation Center on campus, 2 Convent Road, Morristown, N.J., they were treated to the sight of one of the most beautiful and beloved traditions of the CSE Christmas Season: The Créche Collection is now open for all to see in the Therese A. Maloney Art Gallery in the upper lobby.

Showcasing a display of more than 200 créches ranging in all styles and shapes, this year’s exhibition features scenes reflecting cultures in Africa, the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Mexico and Central America. Some are carved in wood while others are molded in clay. There are even some configured from glass, all of which ultimately capture the cultures of respective countries worldwide.

Open from 1 to 5 p.m., the Crèche Exhibit was donated by Eileen Canty of New York City in honor of her friend and CSE alumna, Colette Conroy, ’55, of New Rochelle, N.Y. The exhibition is free-to-the public and on view until December 17, 2012.

“This exhibition is amazing,” said one of the exhibition’s visitors. “It’s astonishing how they interpret many of cultures and put faces to each figure to tell a story of their own.”

The gallery is open to the public Tuesday through Thursday, from 1 to 7 p.m., and Friday, Saturday, and Monday from 1 to 5 p.m. It is closed Sunday, major holidays, and College vacations. For more information about the gallery, visit https://maloneyartgallery.cse.edu.

Sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, N.J., the College of Saint Elizabeth enrolls more than 2,100 full- and part-time students in more than 25 undergraduate, 10 graduate and one doctoral degree programs.
