Rude awakening: Morristown teen told police she came to after heavy drinking to discover she was being raped

A 17-year-old Morristown girl who alleges she was gang raped by three local teens last year told police she awakened in the back seat of a car after an evening of heavy drinking to find herself being sexually assaulted, reports The Star-Ledger.

morristown police badgeThe woman awakened to find one of the younger defendants “on top of her,” Morristown Detective Tyrone Jackson testified Thursday in the juvenile division of state Superior Court.

Two of the alleged assailants were 17 at the time of the September 2011 incident; the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office wants to try them as adults. A third defendant, Tyrec Phillips, 19, is facing charges of aggravated sexual assault.

The alleged victim reported the matter to police eight months later. She was stunned when someone else alerted her that more than one person had raped her, the newspaper reported:

“She started shaking like she was going to vomit,” Jackson testified. “She was very shocked to learn there was more than one.”
