In the holiday crush, you sometimes forget how so little can mean so much.

For men and women in our veterans hospitals, a simple Christmas card can work wonders, says our friend, celebrity chef Melody McGinley Whitelaw of the Main Event in Morristown.

“I take brownies and cupcakes to the ones who can eat,” says Melody. “The smile on their faces is so great, it is worth millions.”

Melody is collecting holiday cards for veterans; you can leave them in a basket on her porch at 80 Washington St.

If that’s not convenient, send your electronic greetings here and we’ll make sure Melody gets them.

She is a regular visitor to the veterans hospital in East Orange, where her husband, Dr. Robert Whitelaw, is recuperating from a long illness.

We wish Bob and all his fellow veterans a speedy recovery and a Merry Christmas. Thank you for your service.
