This weekend’s scheduled pickup of Hurricane Sandy relief items has been pushed back to Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Morristown Fire Department on Speedwell Avenue.

The delay is because of a shortage of rental trucks to haul the goods to Seaside Heights, where the first shipment of Morristown items was delivered earlier in November.

The truck shortage is due to the holidays and relief efforts throughout the region. But the good news is that the U-Haul on Ridgedale Avenue assures us that it can provide a 26-foot truck on Dec. 9.

So please start stockpiling items and bring them to the fire house rear parking lot between 9 am and 5 pm that day. Requested supplies include: Granola bars, canned goods, peanut butter, baby wipes, cat- and dog food, shelf-stable milk, bottled water, boxed cereal, hand sanitizer, paper towels, napkins, garbage bags and cleaning supplies.

Lt. Brian Hoffnagle of the Seaside Heights Fire Department told us on Friday that these items will be greatly appreciated during the holidays.
