The Highlands at Morristown Station, the “transit village” apartment complex that opened near the train station in 2009, is about to welcome its first commercial tenants.
Godfather’s, an East Hanover brick oven and seafood restaurant, has signed a lease for more than 4,500 square feet of space. And a “high-end liquor store” will open next door, on the ground level of the 217-apartment building at 10 Lafayette Ave., announced the developers, the Roseland Property Company and Woodmont Properties, on Monday.
The restaurant and liquor store together will occupy more than half of the street-level retail space at the Highlands, according to the developers.
Last week they welcomed the first commercial tenant, Powerflow Yoga, to the Metropolitan luxury apartments on Market Street.

MORRISTOWN, N.J – Godfather’s of East Hanover, a brick oven pizza and seafood restaurant, is expanding from its hallmark location and will soon be serving its famous pizzas and authentic Italian cuisine to restaurant patrons in downtown Morristown.
The owners of Godfather’s Brick Oven recently signed a lease for more than 4,500 square feet of restaurant space at The Highlands at Morristown Station, an upscale rental building adjacent to the Morristown train station. The restaurant becomes the latest addition to the ever-evolving culture, shopping and dining scene in Morristown, which has seen a number of prominent regional and national retailers set up shop in the downtown area within the last two years.
“The overall redevelopment of downtown Morristown that brought quality new housing and thousands of new residents has combined with a significant daytime workforce, active evening leisure crowd and mass public transportation system to create a much-improved retail climate that is resonating with the business community,” said Debra Tantleff, a Vice President of Development at Roseland Property Company, which has partnered with Woodmont Properties to develop The Highlands at Morristown Station, 40 Park, The Metropolitan at 40 Park and Vail Mansion, four new in-town properties that feature luxury condominium and rental residences with street-level retail.
“The influx of new dining, boutique shops and convenience services complements the area’s existing retail fabric, resulting in a dynamic, pedestrian-friendly setting that epitomizes downtown, urban living.”
Godfather’s Brick Oven will serve its Morristown customers gourmet pizza, antipasti, salads, fresh pasta, seafood delivered fresh daily and premium quality meats. A high-end liquor store will also open next door to the restaurant and will offer shoppers a wide variety of fine wines, craft beers and other unique products. The two new businesses will occupy more than half of the street-level retail space at 10 Lafayette Avenue within The Highlands at Morristown Station, a luxury 217-unit rental building.
Conveniently located next to the Morristown train station and just a short, two-block walk from Morristown’s historic colonial Green, Godfather’s Brick Oven will be a destination restaurant that attracts patrons from all parts of Morristown and surrounding communities.
“This is a very popular local restaurant with a loyal following and we expect it to generate a lot of foot traffic in the area,” Ms. Tantleff said. “It will be a destination that further links the neighborhood near the train station to the Shops on the Green and the rest of downtown Morristown.”
The Roseland/Woodmont Partnership has also successfully attracted a strong retail lineup to its Shops on the Green which anchors the developers’ 76-unit 40 Park condominium building and the 130-unit Metropolitan at 40 Park rental building. The retail is highly visible and easily accessible from Market Street, the Morristown Green and the 40 Park public piazza which leads to an enclosed public parking garage. Existing tenants include Roots Steak House, Urban Table, Starbucks, Qdoba Mexican Grill, the AT&T Store and Powerflow Yoga.
