Morristown public hearing set for proposed community garden, Sept. 10

The Morristown council has scheduled an informational session for Sept. 10 about Grow It Green Morristown’s proposed community garden for Martin Luther King Avenue.

The 7 pm meeting will take place in the senior center at town hall, 200 South St.

Last month the council tabled a vote  on leasing the town-owned parcel because some residents from the predominantly African American neighborhood contended that their input had not been solicited; concerns also were raised about the aesthetics of the garden during the winter.

Grow It Green, which started popular community gardens on Early Street and Hazel Street, would fund the proposed new garden. According to the organizers, this garden will:

– Bring people together in a positive environment. This will facilitate new relationships with people throughout our community.
– Bring private investment funding to jump-start the building of the Greater Morristown Greenway and beautify the trailhead to Patriot’s Path at Lake Pocahontas.
– Give people a place to grow their own food and nourish their families – and their spirit!
