I know you’ve heard of a drive-in movie, but have you heard of a bike-in movie?

That’s right. A bike-in movie.

Tonight, Aug. 31, Bike and Walk Morristown’s Bike In Movie. Music. Picnic. returns to the Early Street Community Garden for its fourth year. Hat’s off to Grow it Green Morristown for its co-sponsorship of this fun evening.

The festivities of this last Friday of summer begin with the Critical Mass Ride leaving Town Hall at 6:15 pm. Depending upon whether you’re a speedster or straggler like me, you’ll arrive at the Community Garden just in time for the musical sounds of the Byrdgrass Acoustic Trio. And if you’re not comfortable riding to the movie, walking and driving are allowed.

bike movie poster 2012Please excuse this short digression. If you’re really not comfortable on the seat of a bike, then join me next Thursday night at Bike and Walk Morristown’s Bike Right: Adult Defensive Bike Skills class taught by Bill Feany of TransOptions.

After completion of all three classes, Sep. 6, 13, and 20, you’ll be a pro at navigating the crazy streets of Morristown. Really. For more information and to register, go to https://www.transoptions.org/?p=adultclasses and choose Adult Classes. See you on the 6th!

Now, back to tonight. If you’ve already ordered your basket from C’est Cheese, your dinner will be waiting for you at the Garden. If not, just do take out from one of the many delicious places here in town or pack up your own.

Tonight’s featured film is by New Jersey Filmmaker Jared Flesher. EntitledSourlands, Stories From the Fight for Sustainability, this documentary focuses on the Garden State and its residents’ experiences on farms, in forests and in the energy sector. Bike and Walk Morristown’s own Christian Schuller is a co-producer of the film. Check out the trailer and see why a “sold-out house in Hopewell, NJ loved it.”

Now get yourself to the Early Street Garden this evening at 6:30. You’ll be glad you did!

A  13-year resident of Morristown, Marcy is using her empty-nester status to recreate herself.  Marcy can be found leading one of Bike and Walk Morristown’s weekly walks from the Vail Mansion on Tuesday mornings at 8, posting, commenting and sharing on Facebook about the many organizations she loves and supports, madly trying to use the abundance of produce she gets from the Community Supported Garden she belongs to and attempting to organize her home.  Some of those efforts are more successful than others!
