School supplies can be a costly proposition for disadvantaged families. But kids served by the Morristown Neighborhood House will be getting a hand on Thursday from JPMorgan Chase and World Vision.

Some 500 backpacks will be loaded with back-to-school supplies on Aug. 16 at the bank’s branch on 225 South St.

Employees, volunteers and residents will have a chance to add inspirational notes to the backpacks between 9 am and 5 pm. Representatives of the bank and World Vision, a Christian humanitarian organization, are scheduled to make brief remarks at noon.

One in five children in the United States lives in poverty, according to the bank, which estimates that school supplies average about $100 per child.

The Neighborhood House has been assisting immigrants and underprivileged families for more than a century.
