Morristown library defaced by vandals

2

When officials talk about improving signage in downtown Morristown, this is not what they have in mind.

Over the weekend, someone tagged the exterior of the Morristown & Township Library–a wall facing the Mayo Performing Arts Center–with an obscenity directed at the police.

Or is it aimed at The Police, the classic rock band?

Either way, it’s not nice.

Millions have been spent restoring the library after an unsolved 2010 explosion. The place doesn’t deserve any more indignities.

We obscured the offending verb with photo editing tools. But you get the picture.

  1. Hi Caroline–
Sounds like you are due for a return visit! The addition to the library is circa 2006. The building to the right now houses Hampshire Management; you probably remember it as a book store. The theater still has “Community Theatre” above the entrance, but it officially became MPAC last year to honor longtime board chairman and benefactor Bud Mayo. The graffiti is not big news, but it is unusual enough to merit a mention. The library has been through a lot since it exploded in 2010.

  2. Wow, admittedly I haven’t been home in some years (2004) but when the heck did they add this part to the Library?? And what is the building on the right there that’s cut off? And when did they change the name of The Community Theater to Mayo Performing Arts Center?? I’ve heard my hometown has changed a lot but…wow! Of course, the graffiti hasn’t. Maybe the Library has inspired someone? Maybe said person should get a canvas instead of using beautiful old buildings?? Is this big news in Mo’town?
