Thursday’s historic Supreme Court decision upholding most provisions of President Obama’s healthcare reform package signals it’s time to lower costs while improving care, said Dr. David Shulkin, president of  Morristown Medical Center and vice president of the Atlantic Health System.

“After a long and healthy debate, there is clarity from the Supreme Court. Now the real work begins to focus on lower cost but improved quality and coordination of care. We will continue to work with those in the public and private sector and with others in health care to create new models of care that lower the cost structure and enhance the product.”

The high court upheld the controversial plan– including a requirement for most Americans to buy health insurance or face penalties–by a 5-4 vote.
