The Morristown Parking Authority has given a $10,000 gift to the town.

“We trust that this contribution will ease the burden on the taxpayers of Morristown,” MPA Chairman Christopher Leon Garibian wrote in a letter to Mayor Tim Dougherty.

“This is done in the spirit of cooperation and in view of the Parking Authority’s 56-year excellent relationship with, and service to, the Town,” the chairman said.

The mild winter meant no big snow removal costs for the Authority, said board member Margret Brady, explaining the gift.

In recent years, the MPA has contributed $545,000 to the town, and forgiven $220,000 in payments over a 10-year span for displacement of a parking lot by an Ann Street project, Christopher noted in his letter. The MPA also has incurred the $50,000 annual expense of enforcing residential parking regulations for the town.
