Grow It Green Morristown's Early Street Community Garden

Grow It Green Morristown has great news! After gardening on borrowed land for three seasons, the Early Street Community Garden has a chance to become a permanent fixture in the community.

The Town of Morristown and the Trust for Public Land are working to preserve the Early Street Community Garden. The Trust for Public Land is a national nonprofit that works to preserve land for people to enjoy as parks, gardens and other natural places, ensuring livable communities for generations to come.

With all the development that is going to begin soon in that neighborhood, Grow It Green Morristown is excited to be able to save this piece as open space, making the new development even more desirable. As we work with the Town and TPL to raise the money, we envision what it could look like if the town owned the property and Grow It Green Morristown were running the community garden and a public park.

We would move the gardens further back to make way for a great public space in front. A park to give identity to an area heavily traveled by the diverse group that makes up Morristown, from young High School students to our seniors from the Senior housing, and every age in between.

We are looking forward to working with the community to come up with a plan that comes from the community, which Grow It Green can implement and maintain!

Because of the grant deadline, this will be going before the Town Council right away.  This Tuesday, February 14th at 7:30.

Please come out and support this.  If you can’t make the meeting, e-mail your Councilperson and make sure your voice is heard.
