Last week, Morristown’s Liquid Church announced a virtual carol-sing that will blend video renditions of Silent Night from around the world on Christmas Eve.

But there’s more.

The church plans to lavish $45,000 of holiday gifts and a banquet on disadvantaged families from Morristown, New Brunswick and Nutley on Dec. 10. The second annual Operation Christmas Angel involves 15 social service agencies and the Hyatt Morristown, which is donating brunches for 200 families, according to the church.

“We know that for many parents, Christmas can be a difficult day, and we’re hoping to make it just a little easier those that could use some extra love at this time of year,” Tim Lucas, lead pastor of Liquid Church, said in a statement.

Numbers cited by the church sound impressive:

  • 1,700 new toys, gifts, and coats costing more than $45,000, from Walmart
  • 1,700 gift bags and gift tags
  • 2,100 eggs, 41 pounds of bacon, 75 gallons of coffee and orange juice
  • 800 yards of wrapping paper
  • 250 holiday photo frames
  • 650 volunteers contributing 7,000 hours

Participating families have been referred by area social service organizations, the church said. More than 400 children should receive toys for Christmas as a result.

Now that’s something to sing about.
