Among other things, the council:

  • Unanimously approved renaming Veterans Memorial Park the J. Robert Tracey Veterans Memorial Park, to honor former Morristown Postmaster Bob Tracey, who served during two wars and has been a tireless advocate for veterans.
  • Honored the Morris County NAACP, celebrating its 80th anniversary.
  • Unanimously adopted a housing plan that will enable it to spend more than $800,000 from an escrow fund for affordable housing.
  • Unanimously approved Voted 6-0 for a $2 million bond ordinance to create a new public works garage at the town’s sewer plant in Hanover. (As noted in the live blog, Councilwoman Alison Deeb stepped out before the vote.) The present DPW site, behind Early Street and Atno Avenue, must be vacated to make way for an apartment complex as part of the Speedwell Avenue redevelopment plan.  (The council is scheduled to vote on that plan on Thursday, Oct. 13.).
