Sixty years young: Ma’am burns up Morristown pool for charity

Ma’am (aka Robin Robertson) swam six miles in just under 4 1/2 hours on Friday!!

She did it in the saltwater pool at Morristown’s Headquarters Plaza fitness club to celebrate her upcoming 60th birthday–and to benefit a nonprofit program called SNAP (Special Needs Athletic Programs).

Ma’am–as she is affectionately known to generations of students at her Morristown Tae Kwan Do Club–said she was able to increase her time considerably by tying in strength training with rigorous workouts. She had expected it would take six hours to swim the 240 laps.

“It is a wonderful cause and it was a gift to me to be able to help,” she said. SNAP creates sports programs for children with special needs, so they can feel acceptance. It was created by Matthew Certner when he was 15.

Ma’am’s fundraising tally is not yet available. Her actual birthday is Oct. 13.  An early Happy Birthday, Ma’am, and many more!
