Video: Morristown Mayor vows to improve communications after Irene

Morristown and Jersey Central Power & Light responded pretty well to Tropical Storm Irene–considering that JCP&L had no “Plan B” when its power substation flooded out, Mayor Tim Dougherty told the town council on Tuesday.

In this 10-minute video, the Mayor describes damage wrought by the storm, explains his efforts to keep pressure on JCP&L to restore power, praises efforts by emergency services personnel, and reminds the public about upcoming hearings about JCP&L’s performance.

The Mayor also reiterates that the state Board of Public Utilities will investigate ongoing problems with exploding manholes in Morristown.

One key lesson learned from Irene, he said, is the need for backup communications in power outages. A generator-powered sign outside town hall, for starters, might help, he said.
